Another Gun Myth for the MythBusters Viewer Challenge!

Here is the Myth.. An Unmodified semi-automatic can fire faster than a similarly configured fully-automatic (machine gun).
It sounds crazy, but to see if there is anything to this myth feel free to view some of my other videos to see if you can tell if any of them are machine guns. The technique used to simulate the full auto fire is called bump firing, but its the inertia of the fired weapon being used to reset the trigger and fire the weapon again. This is all done without any modifications to the weapon in any way, and in the past I have exceeded the rate of fire of machine guns built just like my rifle.
Its easy to test. You just need a PAC timer with the RPM feature (counts the rounds fired to compare them to other weapons).
For years I have stated I could fire a rifle faster than a machine gun, but I never had a PAC timer handy while doing a demonstration to prove it, but a few videos I have posted are exceptionally fast enough that most people feel that I do exceed the rate of fire of a machine gun.
The tech: The parts of an AR15 and an M16/M4 are the same with the exception of the Full auto parts, and the bolt carrier has had the auto-sear trip removed, which makes it lighter (less mass). The results are the lighter mass of the semi-auto bolt carrier allows it to move faster than the heavier bolt carrier on the machine gun.
With the results being a semi is faster than a machine gun.
There you have it the Myth thought as impossible awaiting potential busting.

Sorry I must of heard your video wrong because I thought you said could a semi-auto fire as fast as a full-auto. I think you proved that with your first Ultimate Bumpfire video. It would be interesting to see if you could get a Semi-auto AR15 to cycle faster that a real M16.

They don’t do a myth and say.. close enough.. ;) The idea that someone can shoot a rifle faster than a full auto is interesting, but the fact that it’s possible to fire them well about 1,000 rpm is mind blowing. I’m sure I could build one (legal) that would hit 1200 to 1300 rpm, which is close to double that of the Military M4.

I would be very interesed in learning the ROF of my bumpfire ability. However I think that the producers of the Mythbuster show would say that bumpfiring is close enough to full-auto there for they would not need to make an episode of it.

It’s not a confirmation without actual testing. it’s one thing to see it and hear it, but it’s another to actually apply a PAC timer to the process to get the actual Round Per Minute. In my Video (Bump firing the M4 Semi-Auto) I seem to be exceeding the RPM of the M16 by a large margin, but without knowing the real RPM to compare it to the actual listed RPM of the M16 (M4) it’s not a confirmation but speculation.

The Hughes Amendment just like 34 and 68 bans will never be overturned. the fact that people can bump fire any semi-auto (pistols, shotguns, or anything sa) only shows the ingenuity of people. Bump firing for 99% is not effective and generally a waste of ammo, and with the high ammo prices a thing of the past. It’s not going to help the anti-gunners as the chance of hitting something is reduced even more the fullauto fire in 99% of the people doing it. plus it’s been around for years

I used to believe that my bumpfire videos would show how un-nessasary the Hughes Amendment is. Mainly in efforts to help get it repealed. I fear that my bumpfire hobby will help the anti-gun crowd more than the law abiding gun owners.

There is no under the radar… The assault rifle ban WILL BE SIGNED. we have the most anti-gun president in US history taking control of a antigun congress. The only thing we can do is get black rifles on TV shows and such.. let people see them, and get used to seeing them, rather than fear them. Our only chance now is education.

First off… the show concept is the science of it without the bull and propaganda of those who wish to ban all weapons.

The more people see the weapons, the less evil they seem. provide the fact without the fiction.

it’s also not a HOW-TO on bump firing which can be done with semi hunting rifles just as well as the black rifles. and it’s not like the ATF does not know about bump firing, so who you going to hide it from?

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have an issue with people owning firearms that have the happy switch. I would love to see the Hughes Amendment repealed, but with anti-gun liberals in control of the house, senate, and now the Presidency it would be smart to fly under the radar.

This would make a very interesting myth buster show. However many will view it as being counter productive for people who own military style firearms.

Proving that semi-autos can be manipulated into firing faster than a real machinegun will only give people like the Brady Campaign proof that assault weapons “spray shoot” as they claim they do. The NRA is going to have their hands full when it comes time to debate this issue. Thanks to Youtube, and people who post bumpfiring on their site.

The M230 (which is a modernized Browning 1919A4), and the MG34 are both 100% legal semi-autos. They are identical to the full auto in every way except the ability to fire fully automatically. It just so happens that I sell the parts on my website for the semi conversions, but the parts need to be purchased through an FFL dealer.

In the video you might see:

Semi M4 (being held), Romak III, RPK, 6.5mm Grendel, Tantal, PMKMS, Romy 74, M92, DP28, MG34, M230, VZ58, skorpion, and in front of me an UltraMag 50 BMG bolt action in tactical configuration.

All are BATF legal, 922r compliant and 100% semi-automatic.

They are generally used for weapon demonstrations, science and product R&D.

sorry for the poor quality video, but lighting was an issue, no script, and I did the camera work myself.
